Shell Completes Phase 2 Of Malikai Development Safely

The second phase of the Malikai tension-leg platform (TLP) development in Sabah has been completed by Sabah Shell Petroleum Co Ltd. Despite the challenging environment posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the project was completed safely, without incident, and on time.

Shell Malaysia’s chairman and senior vice president of upstream Malaysia, Ivan Tan says, “The critical Malikai Phase Two development was completed safely by the company’s project team.

“We have been able to leverage our global and local expertise, as well as our strong partnerships, to achieve excellence in project delivery.

“Shell has been a global leader in deep offshore exploration and production for more than 40 years and we are committed to supporting the long-term sustainability of Malaysia’s energy industry.”

Shell said in a statement today that the project entailed the drilling of two additional oil-producing wells and four water injection wells deep offshore.

“The project would enhance the recoverable oil volumes from the field and address the declining volume from some of the older wells developed under Phase One,” Shell says.
