Ministry Lowers Prices Of 4 Basic Food Item

Surely welcome news for before the new year starts, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has assured consumers that they will be able to purchase 4 basic items at a lower price come 1 January 2022.

The items are chicken, eggs, sawi(choy sum) and kacang panjang (long beans) – these basic food items are one of the most consumed by Malaysians and have seen prices go up of late due to rising fertiliser costs and unpredictable weather.

Enforcement director from the Ministry, Azman Adam said these four basic food items were involved in the calibration of the prices as a measure to stabilise the price of goods under the Malaysian Family Maximum Price Scheme.

Upon adjustment, the new prices of these four items will be also brought down but will depend based on the situation and locality. For example, the chicken price will be reduced from RM9.30 to RM9.10. Similarly, for the other three food items, including two types of vegetables, the prices will drop between five and 10 percent.

There have been reports of the soaring price of consumer goods of late, with a distressed economy and rising inflation many households in the B4 category are finding it tough to make ends meet.

However, the government has been cognisant of the situation and instructed the Ministry to be on the ground and monitor the situation and intervene whenever possible.
