MITI Commends Manufacturers And Importers In Complying With Scrap Import Guidelines

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in November announced an extended period of the interim measure regarding the implementation of the Guidelines for the Importation and Inspection of Metal Scrap for HS code 7204 (ferrous scrap), 7404 (copper scrap), and 7602 (aluminium scrap) until December 31. 

In this regard, the Guidelines for the Importation and Inspection of Metal Scrap and the  Guidelines for the Importation and Inspection of Waste Paper will come into force on January 10, 2022. Meanwhile, the interim measure for the implementation of the Guidelines for the Importation and Inspection of Metal Scrap will continue to be enforced until January 9, 2022.  

MITI commends the commitment by all major manufacturers and importers in complying with the Guidelines during the interim period. MITI calls upon the industry to continue to support the overarching objective of the Guidelines in complying with our international commitment as prescribed through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Goal 12:  Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns as well as in upholding the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles.
