MOH Warns Of Likely Omicron Wave In Coming Days

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has warned Malaysians that the Omicron virus has penetrated the community and will be striking spreads in the coming days.

The recent detection of the high number of cases from travelers coming from abroad is a cause of alarm, the highly contagious Covid-19 virus mutation is already spreading all over the globe and is causing much distress in the UK, France, Spain, US, and Italy. Global tally for active cases has risen and hospital admission is also on the increase as reported in the media.

The Ministry is advising caution had has requested for tightening SOPs, wearing of a mask is a MUST and advises immediate action on the booster shots. “Malaysians should not wait for the third shot and go get them as soon as possible”

On the matter of Omicron being less severe on its health effects, Khairy points to data of its infectivity rate and quick spreads. If the higher number of people are infected, the higher the number of hospitalisation cases, this directly impacts hospitals rendering the system to be over burdened.

The government recently took preventive measures in temporarily banning Umrah, a Muslim pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca which came about due to many returning with Omicron infection. The ban was rejected by travel agencies and associations calling to be revoked.
