Government To Draft National Recovery Plan 2.0

Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who heads the National Recovery Council said a National Recovery Plan 2.0 will be drafted to ensure a comprehensive recovery for the country.

With Malaysia looking to transit into the endemic phase, Muhyiddin is forming a task force to conduct an in-depth study on which sectors are able to recover and supercharger the economy back. The study will also include sectors that are slow and see how they can be boosted.

Apart from the economy, the teams will be working on the mechanism on the possibility of future Covid-19 case spikes or clusters, the government has assured that they will be no more lockdowns hence a comprehensive guideline needs to be drafted to contain the spreads and at the same time allow the economy to flourish.

The boosting of the sectors is needed if the country is to recover economically from the pandemic, if they (sectors) are left to grow naturally it would take decades he added.

Malaysia is expecting to grow its economy to be in the region of 6.5% after a tumultuous 2021, while trade has been encouraging there are some industries still lagging in terms of growth. While close to 90% of businesses have resumed operations some of the sectors have remained closed like international events and foreign travels.

NRP 2.0 seeks to address these gaps and streamline recovery in a more strategic manner.
