DOSM launches HIES/BA 2022 Survey

The Department of Statistics (DOSM) launched the Household Income, Expenditure and Basic Amenities Survey (HIES/BA) 2022 located at Dewan Serbaguna, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang.

The launching of HIES/BA 2022 was officiated by Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Economic Affairs and attended by Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, Chief Statistician Malaysia.

DOSM said that this survey is conducted through face-to-face interviews and will involve a total of 92,000 selected households consisting of more than 500,000 populations across the country.

“In addition to the face-to-face interview method, the selected respondents may fill-in the questionnaire through online. The confidentiality of the information provided by the respondents in this survey is guaranteed in accordance with the provisions under the Statistics Act 1965 (Revised 1989),” it said

It said that this survey will benefit all parties especially the Government in analysing the distribution of household income and expenditure according to a more detailed domain.

Commencing from the Second Malaysia Plan to the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, the findings of HIES/BA have been used extensively in the formulation of policies and poverty eradication programs as well as policies related to household income equality.

“Following the health and economic crisis in our country, the findings of the HIES/BA 2022 will be a new benchmark for the Government to form relevant policies and regulations for the well-being of the people,” DOSM said.

In addition, it said that these findings are also one of the inputs that will be used by the Government to assess the achievements of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan, Shared Prosperity Vision 2030, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs) which emphasize sustainable national development in line with fair, equitable and inclusive economic distribution at all levels of income groups, ethnicities, regions and supply chain.

As for the Population and Housing Census Malaysia 2020, Minister said that the preliminary report will be released in stages starting from February 2022 until 2024. These include more than 1,000 reports of the Malaysia Census 2020 covering 16 states, 160 districts, 222 parliaments and 600 State Legislative Assemblies

In his speech, YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed also stated that in line with the strengthening of the National Statistics System, the National Statistics and Data Council (MSDN) chaired by the YAB Prime Minister of Malaysia has been established to determine the direction of the national statistics system as well as a platform for coordinating information at a national level.
