Better Water Quality In Selangor After 800km Pipe Replacement

Air Selangor which manages and operates all drinking water supply to households and commercial areas in Selangor, conducted a massive 1,562 scheduled maintenance throughout 2021 in order to ensure clean and safe treated water are delivered to the people.

Conveying the message on social media, the company stated that the various operational initiatives were to ensure water sustainability for future generations. It also added that more than 800 kilometers of pipes have been replaced since 2016 to ensure water sustainability in the future. Since taking over the management of water from the private entity Puncak Niaga, Air Selangor under PUAS, has been embarking on improving the infrastructure of the system from the treatment plants to the old dilapidated pipes.

As for the non-revenue water (NRW) rate for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya had reached 28.1 percent as of November while 28.6 percent in 2020.

Air Selangor is also targeting NRW for the three areas to drop to 27 percent next year. Previously, Infrastructure EXCO Ir Izham Hashim targeted the state’s NRW to drop to 25 percent by 2025 through careful planning including the replacement of various components.

The company aims to reduce unscheduled water cuts as the systems get improved and pipes replaced.
