MBI Handing Out 25,000 Free SIM Cards This Year

Menteri Besar Incorporated which is the development arm under the Menteri Besar office is targeting a total of 25,000 recipients for this year’s free SIM card distribution through the Selangor Internet Data initiative.

Its Chief Executive Officer Puan Hajah Norita Mohd Sidek said of the total, the low-income group (B40) will be top beneficiaries, followed by online merchants and not to mention, students. She added that the initiative which started in 2020 will still be continued after it received encouraging response from the public.

Background on the program, in August last year, Menteri Besar Dato Seri Amirudin Shari announced that a total of 70,000 people in the state will enjoy free SIM cards and internet data for 12 months with the State allocating RM17.5 million. He said the initiative was targeted at Selangor’s People’s Tuition Program students, Selangor Foundation borrowers, Selangor University students, and Selangor International Islamic University College.

Included in the list are students of State Technical Skills Development Center, online traders under the Selangor e-Bazar, farmers, and single mothers.

The State has been embarking on programs that can empower people and feels digitalisation should be inclusive and that no community should be left behind.
