Border Relaxation Once Booster Rates And Kids Vaccination Increases

For those wondering when Malaysia will open its borders fully will have to wait a bit longer that is if 2 criteria set out by the Health Ministry is met.

Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin in his regular updates on the Covid-19 situation in the country said that in order for the Ministry to advise the Cabinet to relax the borders and requirement on quarantine period will only be when the booster vaccination among the adult population and the vaccination for kids showed improved rates.

He added, that despite the booster vaccination rate among adults has surpassed 50 per cent, he still wants to see a higher number before making any recommendation.

However, he said the Ministry is weighing the threshold values that are comfortable in terms of vaccination for children and booster vaccination for adults, before making any important decision. “We will be making recommendations to the quartet ministerial meeting. I want to see a bit more”.

The current vaccination rate shows 30 percent of senior citizens have yet to receive their booster shots, while for adolescents, experts have yet to recommend the booster shots.

Children, aged 5 to 12 can now get vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech doses, the pharma has also announced doses for children below 5 are currently underway.
