Selangor Targets RM1 Billion In Zakat Collection for 2022

According to LZS the state body in charge of tithe collection or Zakat, the total collection of zakat in Selangor surpassed RM992 million in 2021, an increase of RM79 million compared to the previous year.

Its chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the total distribution by the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) also increased
by RM52 million to RM919 million last year. “We aim for LZS to be able to collect RM1 billion this year after the excellent display last year,”

Both individuals and corporations can contribute to zakat which are then used to help those who are in need of financial or other means of support.

Among the large corporation that donated in 2021, were UMW Holdings which contributed RM4 million, TNB RM3.9 million, Gas Malaysia RM3.5 million, Pharmaniaga RM3.5 million, Bank Rakyat RM2 million, and many others.
