Authorities Not Amused With Snake On Plane Incident

Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has issued an official statement on the “SnakeOn Plane” incident that occurred on an AirAsia plane recently. Not amused with the incident that has since gone viral, the Minister has assured that safety is always paramount and that the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia will monitor the airline’s management operations.

“CAAM will continue to monitor airline management operations to ensure all risks are mitigated correctly and accordingly.” He added that the authority will not compromise when it involves the safety aspects of airline operations.

Reports emerged when a snake was spotted onboard an Air Asia flight headed Tawau from Kuala Lumpur on Feb 10, which forced the aircraft to be diverted to Kuching unlike the Samuel Jackson movie that had aggressive snakes attacking passengers, this was a lone crusader and not of the poisonous variety. The aircraft was safely diverted to Kuching International Airport, Sarawak following required safety procedures.

Dr Wee said the Ministry of Transport has been in close contact with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia in regards to this matter and the technical safety and security regulator has managed this well with the airline in accordance with all safety procedures and regulations.

Under CAAM guidelines, every airline follows strict mandatory detailed pre-flight checks as part of regulated requirements and standard operating procedures.
