TNB Closes The Digital Gap In Perak Through Allo

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) through its wholly owned subsidiary, Allo Technology Sdn Bhd (Allo) further expanded the people’s access to high-speed broadband internet access (HSBB) with the latest connecting 56,132 homes in six areas in Perak.

The achievement makes more than 180,000 premises covering Melaka, Perak, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor in the network of facilities, which supports the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) to bridge the digital divide among the people, especially in rural areas.

Starting with a project to connect 17,000 homes in Melaka, Allo is now actively completing the fiber optic infrastructure network in the six other states involved with the target of connecting 300,000 premises in Peninsular Malaysia by the end of this year.

“TNB’s ability through Allo to provide technology -based services that go beyond electricity services in Perak, is a manifestation of the company’s ability to ensure the people get broad broadband coverage in line with the government’s aspirations,” said TNB Chairman Dato ‘Sri Hasan Arifin.

He was speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Allo Technology Broadband Fiber Optic Infrastructure Network at the Perak state level which was officiated by the Menteri Besar of Perak, Dato ‘Seri Saarani Mohamad in Ipoh, today.

The main goal of JENDELA is to provide Gigabit fixed line broadband access to 7.5 million premises, increase the speed of mobile broadband and expand the coverage of 4G mobile broadband network in populated areas.

The areas that receive the benefits of this infrastructure in Perak are Sungai Rapat (16,483 premises), Kinta (17,144), Menglembu (12,497), Papan (4,598), Silibin (2,790) and Tasek (2,620).

Hasan explained that this facility will enable more Perak residents to access broadband internet at an affordable price, thus empowering the people through aspects such as digital economy development, education, and community development, especially in a challenging economic environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Citizens can use the internet to obtain information, access learning sites, and perform various daily affairs such as banking and bill payment as well as various online transactions.

The fiber optic network to the home (FTTH) is utilized through the concept of Open Access Network (open access). Allo as an open access network provider expands the potential of HSBB through collaboration with seven retail service providers or Retail Service Providers (RSP) such as Maxis, Astro, Digi, Celcom, U Mobile, Freshtel, and Redtone which offer various attractive internet packages to the people.

“TNB’s role through Allo in making JENDELA a success proves our continuous commitment to make people’s lives more prosperous in a better, brighter world. The role of illuminating life by supplying electricity is further strengthened by preparing the people and the country to face the Industrial Revolution 4.0 through widespread broadband access,” said Hasan.
