The government has opened the application for subsidies for chicken and chicken egg breeders from today February 28 to June 6 for the production of chicken and eggs from February 5 to June 5. A total of RM528.52 million is provided for this subsidy. The subsidy rate of RM0.60/kg for chicken and RM0.05/seed for grade A, B and C eggs. This subsidy will involve private breeders, integrator/semi-integrator breeders, and also contract breeders. Based on the registration records of farmers nationwide, it is estimated that a total of 2,255 farmers will enjoy this subsidy.
Subsidy applications can be made at the office of the Department of Veterinary Services nearest to the breeder’s farm. The Poultry and Egg Subsidy Application Guidelines for Broiler and Laying Poultry Breeders and application forms are available through the Official Portal of the Department of Veterinary Services.
Subsidy payments will be channeled directly to farmers’ accounts through Agrobank. MAFI will evaluate the subsidy to ensure that the subsidy payment process runs smoothly and all farmers involved can use this subsidy to increase the operating capacity of the farm and ensure a continuous supply of chickens and eggs.
The government hopes that by providing this subsidy to some extent can ease the burden of farmers following the increase in costs, especially food costs which cover 70% of production costs in addition to logistics costs, labor costs, utility costs and the cost of medicines. This subsidy is given to all categories of breeders whether private breeders, integrator breeders or semi integrator breeders as well as contract breeders.
MAFI believes that the Government’s intervention through the provision of subsidies to farmers will be able to re-stabilize the supply and ensure that the people can buy chickens and eggs at affordable prices.
