MAFI In The Process Of Valuing Losses Due To Floods In Kelantan, Terengganu

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) is in the process of assessing the losses of the agro-food sector affected by the floods in Kelantan and Terengganu, said its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.

Currently, he said, the estimated loss of the agro-food sector in the two states was RM500,000, among them, involving the paddy, livestock, and aquaculture sectors.

“Floods in Kelantan and Terengganu, we are updating the damage data in the agro-food sector,” he said in a press conference after attending the 10th Agricultural Convocation Ceremony, here on Thursday.

Ronald said MAFI had channeled assistance amounting to RM22 million to the agro-food sector affected by the floods last December, covering assistance to start enterprises.

“The number (of funds channeled) is always increasing because the value of some has not expired yet and some have increased,” he said.

Ronald, meanwhile, said the courses and training under the MAFI -run training institution would be further improved to equip course participants with the latest technology in the agro-food industry and expose them to modern agriculture based on the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

He said a new course, the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) on Agricultural Machinery Maintenance, would be introduced for intake next September.

The 10th Agricultural Convocation Ceremony involved 1,712 graduates who had graduated from 14 training institutions run by MAFI for 2020 and 2021.
