Bursa Ended in Red with Worries over Surging Cases in Mainland; Asian Equities Closed Mixed with Risk-On Mood

Kuala Lumpur, Mar 15 –Bursa Malaysia closed broadly lower on Tuesday with losers outnumbered gainers. Trading volume was thin as investors were staying on the sideline. The CI slumped as rising Covid-19 cases in the mainland China. Lockdown was imposed in Shenzhen city to contain the galloping cases of the Omicron variant. Equities markets in Asia ended mixed with risk appetite kept in check by expectations of a U.S. interest rate hike this week, and the Russia-Ukraine crisis. It is notable that Shanghai Stock Exchange and HKSE have witnessed a carry-forward selling despite upbeat Retail Sales and Industrial Production numbers. China’s Retail Sales printed at 6.7% outperformed the preliminary estimates of 3%. While, the Industrial Production recorded at 7.5%, improved significantly than the market consensus.
