Boustead DNC Naval Hosts Historic 7th TOKH Graduation Ceremony

Boustead DCNS Naval Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (BDNC) held the seventh Transfer of Know-How (TOKH) Graduation Ceremony for personnel involved in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of the Prime  Minister’s Class Scorpene submarine fleet of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) here today.

The graduation ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of BDNC, Vice Admiral Dato’ Syed Zahiruddin Putra Syed Osman (Retired) with First Admiral Mohd Razib bin Tahir, Submarine Force Commander of RMN Submarine Command Headquarters; Dr. Mohd Yazid Ahmad, Director General of Science & Technology Research Institute for Defence (STRIDE); Puan Kogila Devi a/p Radakrishnan from the Ministry of Defence Malaysia; BDNC Board of Directors and RMN Senior Officers in attendance.

“BDNC has continued to grow from strength to strength both in providing the operational availability for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s strategic asset, the Scorpene submarines and supporting the capability development of Malaysia’s local talents as well as a local industry through the Transfer of Know-How programme in BDNC,” said Dato’ Syed Zahiruddin in his speech. As he congratulated the graduates, he stressed that the expectations are high for BDNC and therefore, more needs to be done.

The graduating batch consisted of 61 BDNC associates and include, for the first time, personnel from outside BDNC, namely 24 from RMN and four from STRIDE.

Also in attendance were representatives from three local companies namely Forte Drus Sdn. Bhd., Multi-Power Industry Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and ES Jesselton Engineering Sdn. Bhd. which are BDNC’s newly qualified vendors. These companies are part of the Localization Initiative Programme (LIP) which is aimed at developing local companies in submarine maintenance and expanding their capabilities and competitiveness in this complex field. BDNC has so far succeeded to localise the submarine maintenance work to over 150 Malaysian-owned companies involving more than RM700 million in terms of contract value awarded.

Feroz Razi Ramli, the Chief Executive Officer of BDNC said, “Today’s event demonstrates BDNC’s strong commitment to not only providing the RMN with the submarine operational availability but also nurturing potential local talents and companies and turning them into individuals or organisations to elevate our local submarine maintenance capabilities to greater heights”. Incorporated on 24 June 2009, BDNC is a joint venture company of BHIC with Naval Group of France (formerly known as DCNS).  BDNC provides submarine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), In-Service Support and Refit services to RMN’s submarine fleet
