MySejahtera Data Stored With Local Host AIMS Data Centre

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has attempted to clarify queries raised by the public and Members of Parliament with regard to data sovereignty and overall controversy surrounding the Covid-19 application MySejahtera.

In his special address at the Parliament House on addressing the matter, the Minister made clear that MySejahtera is under the Health Ministry’s purview and not any individual or private company, he also stated that MySj the alleged organisation which owns the IP and License to the app is still negotiating with MOH on the management of the app once it is handed over.

On the question of the negotiated cost that will the Ministry will incur moving forward, KJ was still coy and said the cost has not been finalised and remarked it will be much lower than the speculated fees of RM330 million. He also reiterated that no payments have been made for the app to Entomo, KPISoft, or MySJ and the RM10 million being mentioned in social media is to Google for the Google Maps feature.

However, on the worry of data and privacy matters with regards to 38 million personal information stored by the software, KJ did reveal that all the information is kept within Malaysia by AIMS Data Centre which is an entity under Time DotCom. He also mentioned that all data and information collected from the use MySejahtera is the property of the Health Ministry and any attempt to extract or copy illegally will be tantamount to a criminal act.

The hour session ended with some of the queries unexplained as to how will MySJ manage the application moving forward once the border reopens and the possibility of the scan and check-in features being disabled, and what will be the final amount paid for the service from here on.

Both the Health Miniter and the Finance Minister have next agreed to meet the Public Accounts Committee to explain at length.
