MOT Reminds Users On The Ban Of Micromobility-Type Vehicles

In a statement today, the Ministry of Transport has reminded the public that the use of micromobility-type vehicles (moped) has been banned since December 17 2021.

This includes public roads, pedestrian walks, and any parts of a road. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong who was mulling regulating the sector however has made a U-turn and continued with the ban on these mini vehicles in their entirety. This could be also due to the recent high-profile conviction of a car driver who was sentenced to 7 years prison term for knocking and killing bicycle riders.

Moped’s, being electrical-powered, petrol engines, or hybrids with a maximum speed of 50 km/h are not allowed.
