Dato Dr Awang Adek Takes On New Role As Securities Commission Executive Chairman

PRG Holdings Berhad Independent Non-Executive Chairman Dato’ Dr Awang Adek Bin Hussin will be resigning from the Group’s board, effective 30 May 2022 to take up a new role as the Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia .

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, PRG said that the resignation of Dato’ Dr Awang Adek Bin Hussin was due to his recent appointment as the executive chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia with effect from 1 June 2022. Therefore, he has decided to step down from his role and responsibilities with PRG.

The SC had announced on 28 April 2022 on the resignation of Datuk Syed Zaid Albar as Executive Chairman of the SC, which will take effect on 31 May 2022. The outgoing Executive Chairman will be succeeded by Dato’ Dr Awang Adek Hussin. 

PRG’s Group Executive Vice Chairman Dato’ Lua Choon Hann said: “The Board of Directors takes this opportunity to thank Dato’ Dr Awang Adek for his numerous contributions towards the Group during his almost five-year tenure here. We wish him every success in his new endeavours.”

Dato’ Dr Awang Adek was first appointed as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of PRG on 18 August 2017. He was instrumental in guiding the company towards having good corporate governance and sustainability practices. A few highlights of his past appointments include Director at Permodalan Nasional Berhad; Chairman at PNB Research Institute, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad; as well as Deputy Minister of Finance, and Deputy Minister of Rural Development.

Listed on Bursa Malaysia Main Market, PRG is a company primarily involved in property development, construction, manufacturing and agriculture businesses. Its manufacturing segment, Furniweb Holdings Limited is listed on GEM board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The Group is counting on the recovery on the property sector and the global push for Environmental, Social and Governance to deliver a turnaround performance in the financial year ending 31 December 2022 (FY2022.
