ECRL A Game Changer For Malaysia

Undeniably, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project will help Malaysia in many ways, especially after the grueling impact of the Covid 19 pandemic, when the country seeks to get back on its feet and move forward.

The mega project that began before the pandemic is back on track and is currently 30% completed. Among the benefits of the project include attracting tourists, traders, and investors, and promoting economic integration, thus strengthening ties between states on the east coast and major cities in Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur.

Chairman of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Datuk Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan commented on the importance of the project during an interview with the China Media Group describing the project which is under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework. Abdul Majid hailed the rail link project between East Coast and West Malaysia as a ‘game changer’ for Malaysia’s economic development in the future.

According to him, the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) located on the east coast is another example of the achievements of cooperation between the two countries together with its twin park, the Qinzhou China-Malaysia Industrial Park (CMQIP).

“Under the BRI framework, MCKIP has now managed to attract investors from China and other ASEAN countries, indirectly
being a generator for the development of the East Coast Economic Region in Malaysia.”

Abdul Majid added, ECRL will be the corridor that activates Kuantan Port, MCKIP, and the East Coast Economic Region.
