The Story Of A Dental Student Turned Entrepreneur; ToothGood

It all started in November 2014, when Year 4 students were required to participate in the Entrepreneurship Project at the University of Malaya’s Faculty of Dentistry. Dr Koh Wen Thong developed the business concept of providing dental students with the necessary instruments and materials. This concept arose when she, a dental student at the time, found it difficult to obtain dental quotations, especially with an opaque system.

How did it all start?

“It all started when I started volunteering as a volunteer teacher in Siem Reap, Cambodia. As a dental assistant in Laos preparing for Smile Action Team and assisting in dental outreach camps in India and parts of Malaysia, I am aware that many parts of the world continue to lack basic healthcare. We funded dental volunteering projects in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Sabah through ToothGood.

We believe that education is the key to spreading the message of oral health around the world and thus creating more smiles,” said Dr Koh.

The story behind ToothGood

ToothGood is a brand that caters to the diversity and uniqueness of every smile. It was founded with the mission of providing Malaysians with a variety of options for oral care products.

Thousands of customers are perusing thousands of oral care products in a pharmacy and are perplexed by all of the toothpaste options. What do terms like “whitening,” “anti-cavity,” and “anti-gingivitis” actually mean? Do they even have any meaning?

With so many brands on store shelves across the country, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what you’re buying, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Moreover, simply buying the most expensive oral care products may not solve the problem.

Products are constantly evolving, with new products on the horizon. As a savvy consumer, you should be aware of the various dental tools available. At the same time, be wary of newer products that are not authorised and do not meet safety standards. Fake products that are harmful to your oral cavity are also on the market. As a result, it is critical to be aware of what is going on. ToothGood urges you to stay informed for the sake of your health.

It wasn’t an easy journey

Of course, juggling her exhausting student life treating patients at University Malaya and a labor-intensive business has been difficult. “When customers share positive feedback, it is really motivating to know that our oral care products are assisting in the resolution of their oral problems,” she admits. This, along with my genuine love for the craft, keeps me going!” she exclaims.

Dr. Wong Chee Soon, a fellow dentist, became a business partner who shares her philosophy. He frequently offers advice on how to improve her business and travels with Dr. Koh to numerous dental conferences and exhibitions in order to find the right toothpaste or special brushes. Before deciding on which brands to work with, extensive research is conducted. Customers love to place repeat orders with them because they provide excellent customer service.
