SELGATE Healthcare Launches One-Stop Healthcare Centre In Shah Alam

Selgate Corporation Sdn Bhd, through its healthcare subsidiary, SELGATE Healthcare Sdn Bhd, launched the SELGATE Healthcare Centre at Universiti Selangor (Unisel) in Shah Alam, Selangor on May 19.

The healthcare centre houses a Selcare general practitioner (GP) clinic, a Selcare dental clinic, Jovian Selcare Pharmacy, and a Selcare Diagnostics laboratory.

SELGATE Healthcare’s Executive Director Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth said the one-stop healthcare centre at UNISEL marks an important milestone for the state-linked company as it aspires to provide quality and affordable personalised healthcare services for all.

“SELGATE envisions to be one of the leading private health care operators in Malaysia and we are striving to provide quality health care that is affordable at the same time to fill the gap in underserved areas,” Noor Hisham said at the launch of SELGATE Healthcare Centre.

The launch was officiated by Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and was graced by Selangor’s Public Health, Unity, Women and Family Executive Councillor, Yang Berhormat Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and UNISEL President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman. SELGATE is fully owned by the state-owned Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

The launch of the SELGATE Healthcare Centre, which cost RM3.5 million in total, Noor Hisham said, adds to Selgare Corporation’s growing list of healthcare subsidiaries and services nationwide.

SELGATE currently has 16 Selcare GP clinics with 43 doctors, three Selcare dental clinics, four Jovian Selcare pharmacies and one Selcare Diagnostics laboratory.

Noor Hisham told reporters that the diagnostics lab has the capacity to run 500 blood samples in an hour, including for leukaemia, thalassemia, and dengue. The lab can also conduct polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests and can process up to 100 samples in four hours.

Dr Siti Mariah said that SELGATE Healthcare Centre will participate in the Selangor Screening Programme (Selangor Saring), which will kick off on 22 May 2022 in Ijok, Selangor. The screening programme covers three disease categories namely non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease; cancer; and eye-related diseases. Registrations can be made through the SELangkah mobile application.

Apart from Selcare clinics, dental clinics, pharmacies, and the Selcare diagnostics lab, SELGATE is also the owner of the state health app, SELangkah, as well as insurance and nursing arm.

SELGATE is also planning to construct and operate seven hospitals, with a capacity of over 800 beds, over the next five years. In an interview with The Edge earlier this year, Noor Hisham said SELGATE’s goal is to function in a “similar manner” to KPJ Healthcare Bhd, owned by Johor Corp, and TDM Bhd for the Terengganu state government.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, in his speech, expressed Selangor’s ambition to create a “comprehensive” health ecosystem that can provide the best health care services, especially for low-income and middle-income earners, and allows the state to better respond to future challenges arising from natural disasters and pandemics.

Noor Hisham said SELGATE is committed and supportive of both federal and state government policies to move towards a more advanced country through contributions to the health sector.

“Our cooperation with the state government in combating the Covid-19 pandemic since the beginning is a testament to our commitment and has also proven that partnerships between government and corporate bodies are important for the well-being of the people of Selangor,” Noor Hisham said.

Noor Hisham said the establishment of SELGATE Healthcare Centre is also consistent with the Selangor state government’s determination to improve and upgrade health services in urban areas, especially in the state capital, Shah Alam.

“With the development of this one-stop health centre, SELGATE can help promote Selangor as one of the ideal health tourism destinations as well as boost the state’s economy.

“We live in uncertain times, but access to quality health care should not be compromised. We want to provide people with continuous care, giving them more convenience and access to consultation and health care services to a specialist of their choice,” Noor Hisham added.
