Selangor Will Continue With Affordable Chicken Sale Program In June

Selangor is increasing the number of chickens to be sold in June under its affordable chicken sale program from 10,000 to 20,000 a day to meet the demand the State expects.

“The demand for chicken is 15 million per month but its production in the state is only half of that at 7.5 million.

“In fact, not all the chicken produced is sold in Selangor, so it is not enough to cater for the local demand. We need to bring in more to cover the shortage,” he said.

Izham said the additional 10,000 chickens would be imported from Thailand.

“We will reduce the price by RM1. If the ceiling price per kilogramme (kg) is RM8.90, and a whole chicken with a weight of 1.8 kilograms (kg) fetches around RM16, we will sell it at RM15,” he said.

The State Exco also said the state government would continue the affordable chicken sale programme that was implemented from December last year until Syawal as a short-term solution to the supply shortage.

The programme that will be held from June 1 until the Aidiladha festival offers essential items at lower than market prices to help consumers deal with the rising prices of goods.
