Asian Markets Closed Mostly Lower Amidst Anxiety, KLCI Tumbles to 1-Month Low

Kuala Lumpur, June 7 – Bursa Malaysia ended lower on Monday with lacklustre trading volume. Market breadth was negative as the losers outpaced gainers while 395 counters were unchanged. The FBM KLCI closed 0.77% lower. On a macro-view of the stock markets in Asia Pacific region, Asian stock markets ended mixed despite the broadly positive cues from Wall Street overnight, affected by a bond sell-off on Wall Street amid anxiety about higher U.S. interest rates. Markets are expected to whipsaw between gains and losses as market participants weigh evidence about whether the Fed’s rate hikes can cool inflation without tipping the economy into recession. Also a European Central Bank (ECB) policy meeting on Thursday for confirmation whether the central bank will raise rates at the July 21 policy meeting.

** The FTSE BM KLCI down 11.90 points or -0.77% at 1,525.93.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,538.74. The index fluctuated between 1,526.20 – 1,541.43.

** 365 counters are gainers, 395 counters are unchanged, while 592 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,618,581,900 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM1,776,020,989.

** The Top 5 Gainers : NESTLE (133.80, +0.70) ; AJI (12.96, +0.26) ; CHINTEK (9.70, +0.25) ; PPB (16.56, +0.24) ; IMASPRO (3.80, +0.21)

** The Top 5 Losers : KLK (25.46, -0.54) ; MPI (33.10, -0.40) ; HSTECH-HJ (0.53, -0.335) ; MEITUAN-H3 (0.225, -0.285) ; HSI-HBG (0.815, -0.235)

** The Top 5 Most Active Stocks: SAPNRG (0.05, -0.005) ; YEWLEE (0.29, +0.01) ; GPACKET (0.075, +0.005) ; G3 (0.05, +0.005) ; JETSON (0.315, +0.065)

** Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) dropped 1.85 points or -0.06% to 3,224.78 ; Hong Kong’s HSI dropped 122.23 points or -0.56% at 21,531.67 ;  Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 28.06 points or +0.1% at 27,943.95 ; Korea’s Kospi Index ceded 44.31 points or -1.66% at 2,626.34 ; Shanghai’s SSE Index rose 5.39 points or +0.17% at 3,241.76 ; Australia’s All Ordinaries declined 114.50 points or -1.54% to 7,318.60.
