MAHA 2022 Returns Focusing On Food Security, Targets 1.1 Million Visitors

The MAHA 2022 Pre-Launch Ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Malaysia (MAFI), YB Datuk Seri Dr. Ronald Kiandee at MAEPS Serdang here. Themed “Food Security for the Future”, the setting of this theme is in line with the focus being given in strengthening the National food security agenda.

In his speech, Ronald called on all parties to give their full commitment to the organization of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show – MAHA 2022 which will be held from August 4 to 14.

“The organization of MAHA 2022 this year is expected to attract 1.1 million visitors, targeting more than RM250 million in potential sales of agricultural and agro-food products, including business matching,” he explained.

The last MAHA event in 2018 has managed to attract a total of 3.3 million visitors and recorded sales revenue of RM215 million. In 2020, the bi-annual MAHA program could not be implemented due to the outbreak of COVID-19 at that time. Now, after 4 years, MAHA is back again and will be one of the highlight events that the public is waiting for.

In line with MAFI’s intention to make the agriculture and food industry a major contributor to the national economy, various new programs and approaches were formulated throughout the year.

The implementation of MAH 2022 will be the Ministry’s platform to achieve the targeted objectives, namely:

i. Business matching activities;
ii. Showcasing the latest technologies and innovations in the field of agro-food;
iii. Explain the direction and provide a platform for domestic and foreign business development;
iv. Encourage the involvement of the younger generation in the field of agricultural business;
v. Promote MAHA as the premier agricultural trade fair by attracting the participation of corporate companies and industry players; and
vi. To encourage and promote the front line of the agro-food sector which includes farmers, ranchers, and fishermen as well as agro-food entrepreneurs

The Ministry will also continue to take steps to lead the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) to modernize the country’s agricultural industry in line with the National Agro-Food Policy 2021-2030 to ensure a competitive and sustainable agro-food sector.

About 1,500 exhibition and sales spaces will be provided this MAHA according to segments such as:

i. Exhibitions by Government ministries, departments, and agencies;
ii. Exhibitions by private companies and local corporate bodies;
iii. Seminars and agro-food conventions;
iv. Operation of state sites and houses;
v. Popular Malaysian food in the Food Empire; and
vi. Not to be missed is the Farmers’ Market, where 70 sales lots will be available to sell fresh agricultural produce from the farm at affordable prices.

At the same event, MAFI also announced sponsorship packages offered to companies or organizations interested in becoming MAHA’s strategic partners as well as booth prices for exhibitions either inside or outside the hall.

The Ministry always welcomes the ideas and views of all stakeholders to further enhance the approaches formulated and implemented to strengthen the agro-food sector and ensure the country’s food security in the future.

Puan Azah Hanim Binti Ahmad, Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of MAFI, YBhg. Dato ‘Dr Mohamad Zabawi Bin Abdul Ghanl, Director General of MARDI including representatives of the State Government and industry players.
