TNB To Train Post-Pandemic Gig Economy Workforce Via The TNB Reskilling Malaysia Program

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is expanding the scope of the TNB Reskilling Malaysia (TRM) Program to cover the growing sector of the gig economy. The move was taken as an effort to accelerate the country’s economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In line with the shift to digitization which is a key feature of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 that led to an increase in more flexible and employer-free work arrangements, this effort will push gig workers to boost the momentum of the local labor market.

According to TNB’s Chief Human Officer, Wahizan Abd Rahman, the way of working is gradually shifting to remote and hybrid methods, where working from home has become the new norm in Malaysia, and is expected to drive increased demand for gig workers.

“Many also face challenges in finding a job or business. We believe, this is the right time for gig economy participants to go beyond their current roles and retrain for a better, brighter future, ”he said.

Therefore, said Wahizan, this TRM initiative helps them increase their capacity to be able to explore new and wider gig economic opportunities, in an effort to increase their income.

Meanwhile, TNB Integrated Learning Solutions (ILSAS) Managing Director, Siti Sarah Mohd Said said: “We designed this short-term module specifically to prepare gig workers in line with market progress, so that they can benefit through more meaningful participation with additional skills, He said.

The training is fully sponsored by TNB and the condition of admission to the TRM program for gig employees is to have a service agreement signed by the employee and the company (service provider); or has successfully registered the business under the Companies Commission of Malaysia; or have business qualifications or related agreements.
