Alam Flora Came Through With Their ‘Sustainability Hunt 2022’ In Support Of UN’s SDG

Alam Flora is taking a step further in adopting a holistic approach towards sustainability which encompasses Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects across the value chain. This is being done through several programmes and initiatives involving waste diversion and waste recovery facilities.

Alam Flora’s Sustainability Hunt 2022 which took place on June 23 at Taman Tugu, Kuala Lumpur, consisted of 10 participants from the mainstream media, 10 bloggers, five Key Opinion Leader’s (KOLs) and five celebrities.

The first place for each category (Mainstream Media, Blogger, KOLs and Influencers) won a cash prize of RM500. The second and third place winners walked away with RM300 and RM150 respectively.

Throughout the hunt, all participants were required to pass through five checkpoints which were ‘The Seed of Life’, ‘The Tree’s Last Message’, ‘Upcycle’, ‘Trash Encyclopedia’, and ‘Sustainability Quiz’.

‘Upcycle’ required all participants to turn an old t-shirt into a usable bag. Upcycling which is also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, used, or unwanted products into new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality, such as artistic value or environmental value.

Besides that, ‘The Seed of Life’ taught participants how to plant the seeds of microgreens. Ummi Nazeera, a Malaysian celebrity who was also a participant of the hunt said, “I am very happy, and I have learnt a lot through this sustainability hunt. One thing that I will do at home too is ‘micro seeding’.”

Alam Flora’s COO, Azahari Zainal Abidin, said Alam Flora is using the media and influencers to send the message of sustainability even faster to the public. If the reception is good, we will have this sustainability hunt every year at different locations.

“Alam Flora is now on the right track to improving aspects of sustainable living and environmental care, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among them are adopting digital technology in its day-to-day operations, for example, by monitoring its operating vehicles to enable the provision of more efficient and effective services, and by reducing fuel waste which can reduce its carbon footprint.”
