Shangri-La Hotels Malaysia Appoints New Managing Director

Shangri-La Hotels (Malaysia) Berhad has announced the appointment of Chan Kong Leong as the new Managing Director of the Company with effect from 30 June 2022.

Chan will succeed Madam Kuok Oon Kwong who has decided not to stand for re-election at the Company’s 51st Annual General Meeting and accordingly and will retire from the Board and from her role as Managing Director of the Company.

He joined Shangri La as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director and will now be re-designated as Managing Director of the Company. 

Chan who is a Singapore national also serves as the Regional CEO of South East Asia and Australasia at Shangri-La Asia Limited, with responsibilities for driving financial and operating performance as well as overseeing the overall business activities and strategic execution of new development and investments across the region, including the SHMB Group of hotels in Malaysia, which will ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Prior to joining Shangri-La, he was CEO and Executive Director at Suntec Real Estate Investment Trust which is listed on the Singapore stock exchange, and CEO and Executive Director at ARA Trust Management (Suntec) Limited, the manager of Suntec REIT. He also acquired valuable experience at CapitaLand Limited as Senior Vice President, Head of Regional Investment, Assets and Fund Management, and as Regional General Manager, West China. In addition, he has acted as Chief Operating Officer for Sembawang Kimtrans Limited and Head-Corporate Finance and Investor Relations at GuocoLand Limited.
