FBM KLCI Edged Lower in Tight Range While Asian Stocks Tumbled As US and Japan Indicators Paint Gloomy Picture

Kuala Lumpur, June 30 – Bursa Malaysia closed slightly lower on Thursday as the barometer index is expected to whipsaw in tight range due to lack of buying support and fresh new leads. Market breadth remained negative with decliners outnumbered gainers meanwhile trading volume was thin. Investors’ mood shall remain wary on external factors given the uncertainties on global economic prospects. The US economy recorded a worse-than-expected contraction in the last quarter – this has pushed the Asian indices to close in red today except Shanghai’s SSE. Japan’s Nikkei225 has tumbled on mixed Industrial Production data. Hong Kong’s HSI dropped mainly because of profit-taking before the SAR Establishment Day holiday tomorrow. It is notable that Japan’s indices underperformed on account of mixed Industrial Production data: the monthly Industrial Production figure -7.2%, extremely lower vs. -0.3% estimated and the prior release of -1.5%.
