6 Telcos Take Up Equity Stake In DNB: Communication Minister

Communication Minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has confirmed that 6 telecommunication companies have taken up stakes in government-owned 5G operator Digital Nasional Berhad as the deadline comes to a close.

Malaysia’s rollout has been on the back burner since the Finance Ministry opted to appoint DNB as the principal entity to manage the country’s 5G execution, the main mobile operators have been reluctant to take part in the Single Wholesale Network adopted by DNB. This has been in most part argued as non feasible with most countries around the world find the auction method a more progressive approach.

However, Malaysia has maintained its decision with the Cabinet being convinced on the proposal and returned to the operators with a new equity stake model offering telco’s ownership of DNB.

The latest announcement made by the Communication Minister includes the two telco’s who have earlier signed and agreed to DNB offers being Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communication.
