Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales registered RM142.0 billion with a growth of 15.7 per cent in May 2022

Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales registered RM142.0 billion with a growth of 15.7 per cent in May 2022, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said.

It said that Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales value in May 2022 stood at RM142.0 billion, grew 15.7 per cent as compared to the previous year.

DOSM said that the rise in sales value in May 2022 was driven by the increase in Electrical & Electronics Products (24.9%), Food, Beverages & Tobacco Products (20.3%) and Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber & Plastic Products (7.7%).

On the Total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in May 2022, DOSM said that it  was 2,296,686 persons, an increase of 2.7 per cent as compared to 2,236,459 persons in May 2021. Salaries & wages paid amounted to RM7,787.1 million, increased by 5.0 per cent or RM371.5 million in May 2022 as against the same month of the preceding year

It said that the sales value per employee rose by 12.7 per cent to record RM61,847 as compared with the same month in 2021. Meanwhile, the average salary & wages per employee was RM3,391 in May 2022.

DOSM said that the ales value of the Manufacturing sector in the period January to May 2022 registered an increase of 13.5 per cent to RM705.3 billion as compared to the same period of 2021. The number of employees engaged during the period rose by 2.7 per cent to register 2,296,686 persons while salaries & wages paid went up by 4.4 per cent to RM39.0 billion. The sales value per employee during the reference period rose by 10.5 per cent to record RM307,088.
