Eclimo Customises E-Bikes To Double Up As A Mobile Food Truck

Eclimo, a Malaysian green technology start-up has launched an e-motorbike mobile food truck, which is possibly the first in the world.

The EclimoES11, part of the Company’s fleet of electric motorbikes, has been scaled up to include a customized carrier bag which can power a grill or stove placed inside the bag. This is enabled with the bike’s Nano-structured Battery Monitoring System (BMS) and allows mobility food entrepreneurs to cook nasi lemak, toss a pizza or make satay on-the-go–all inside the carrier bag!

This e-vehicle also doubles up as a power source for a generator if the owner opts to set up a roadside stall at a pasar malam or even serve as a food vendor at events. Such is its versatility that it is sure to make the idea of owning a mobile stall that much more appealing.

The ES11 comes equipped with an easy 3-pin plug socket which vendors can plug and charge at any time, anywhere. What’s more, the BMS can monitor battery health; send out alerts when the battery voltage drops; and comes with a tracking and geo-fencing system that can be controlled via mobile app – making range anxiety a thing of the past for mobility entrepreneurs. One full charge will give you 100 kilometres (km) and with every 100km travelled, you’ll be saving up to 7kg of carbon dioxide emissions.

As the nation is in its endemic phase,  Eclimo has seen an increase in demand by enthusiastic food entrepreneurs who do not want to deal with high rentals or the shortage of labour to operate restaurants or stalls.

“As Malaysians, food is our passion and we saw the opportunity to elevate an electric vehicle into creating opportunities for the B40 community to start a small business through this micro-mobility entrepreneurship business model,” said Eclimo Sdn Bhd Executive Director, Dato’ Dennis Chuah.

“We currently have 25 units of customized bikes which we rent out at between RM 20 to RM 30 per day per day. We expect to increase this  to 100 units before the year-end. Carrier bags can be customized according to the unique needs of the individual food vendor,” he said.

The e-motorbikes have also been well- received by last-mile delivery riders and the Company’s expanding client base now includes brand names such as Dome, GrabFood, Huckleberry, DHL and Pos Malaysia. Eclimo is also a partner to the recently launched Gentari, an independent entity under PETRONAS, as part of its Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) clean fleet solution. Gentari was introduced to accelerate the adoption of commercialization of clean energy.

Dato’ Dennis added, “This innovation is a further incentive for Malaysians to adopt green technology and use it in a way that is beneficial to them economically.”

Eclimo plans to expand its fleet of customized e- motorbikes for food vendors into the ASEAN region in the next year.
