Paracetamol Sales Jumped By over 200% In The First Quarter Of 2022, Says Khairy

The sales of paracetamol jumped by 238% in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous year, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“There is an exponential increase in demand for fever, flu and cough medicines. For instance, the sales for paracetamol increased by 238% in the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of the previous year,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Khairy said that the disruption of supply was due to the total lockdown in China where most of the supply for active ingredients for pharmaceutical products is produced and the Russia-Ukraine war where an ingredient that is added to the active ingredient was produced.

“Other countries such as Australia and Singapore are also facing a shortage of supply,” he said.

Don’t play politics with talk of replacing MA63, says Ongkili

KUALA LUMPUR: Don’t play semantics and politics with regard to talk of replacing the Malaysia Agreement (MA63) with a new one, warns Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.

“Any view that proposes having a new Malaysian agreement to replace MA63 is a distortion of the nationalist struggle of the country.

“To neglect MA63 would mean to disregard the Federation of Malaysia.

“Such views are very confusing and wayward and not in sync with the constitutional amendments which were passed in this noble House where MA63 is part of the Federal Constitution,” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said when replying to a question raised by Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman (Warisan-Sepanggar) in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Do away with ‘jurassic’ laws, says Nazri

Do away with “jurassic” laws that could be used against politicians, says Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz

“To prevent the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) from being used against politicians, maybe we could look at the provisions under the Penal Code such as Section 124(b) to 124(j), which cover offences detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

“All these, we can throw away because they are ‘jurassic’,” Nazri (BN-Padang Rengas) said when debating the Bill to extend Sosma in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (July 26).

The former minister in charge of law said that the provisions cited may have been apt in previous times but were now outdated.

“They (the provisions) may have been apt for the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s but we are now headed into 2023,” he said.
