Singapore Reports 60% Residents Could Have Had Covid-19

Singapore Health Minister in his parliament address stated that 60% of the citizens are likely to have contracted Covid-19 but that does not mean the country has herd immunity.

On record, there are 1.7 million reported cases which are 30% of the total population, the government came up with the estimation based on blood samples taken during routine polyclinic cases and from healthy volunteers.

The Minister also added that scientists around the world don’t think herd immunity can be achieved as the virus will continue to mutate and escape the protection of vaccines. What is achievable is population protection against severe illness through vaccination he said.

Singapore has changed its methodology of how it reports cases and as infections could flare up with immunity waning, the Ministry will also report cases to reflect the change.
