No ‘Specific’ Assets Sold For EPF Withdrawal Schemes

Last April, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) did not liquidate any specific asset to fund the i-Lestari, i-Sinar, and i-Citra schemes, as well as the final one-time RM10,000 special withdrawal facility.

Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz stated in a written parliamentary reply that the EPF had liquidated assets in the “regular course of business” to support the withdrawal schemes.

“Any purchase or sale of EPF assets is subject to investment portfolio rebalancing based on EPF’s strategic asset allocation (SAA) and is aimed at generating real revenue that may be paid to members in dividend payments,” he explained.

A Flurry Of Excitement At Parliament During Nancy Pelosi’s Visit

During her visit to Parliament, two concerns with direct ties to the US were highlighted in Dewan Rakyat.

Among them was the postponement of a report on human trafficking by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

According to the US Department of State yearly report issued last month, the country remains in Tier Three of the Trafficking in Persons Report through July 2022.

Malaysia’s attempts to meet US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety standards after being downgraded from Category 1 to Category 2 in November 2019 were also mentioned.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong informed the House that the country was on pace to meet the FAA’s 29 findings, with an announcement expected later this month from US aviation authorities.
