Asian Stocks Closed Higher On Upbeat Data

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 4 – Bursa Malaysia closed higher on Thursday day as the barometer index FBM KLCI rose 17.14 points or +1.15% to 1,507.71. KLCI was buoyed by buying of selected heavyweights such as the consumer staples, plantation stocks. Meanwhile, the Asian markets are broadly positive tracking the footprints of bullish Wall Street after the release of the US ISM Services PMI data. The upbeat US ISM Services economic data indicated that the demand is resilient. Leading the pack on the performance today is Hong Kong’s HSI as market participants turned their eyes from tensions in Taiwan to new infrastructure projects that Beijing is planning to boost its sluggish economy.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,491.66 . The index fluctuated between 1,491.66 – 1,505.42 .

** 611 counters are gainers, 392 counters are unchanged, while 276 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,650,354,220 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,893,375,276

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) up 16.95 points or +0.52% to 3269.01 ;  Hong Kong’s HSI jumped 406.95 points or +2.06% at 20,174.04; Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 190.30 points or +0.69% at 27,932.20 ; Korea’s Kospi Index up 11.66 points or +0.47% at 2,473.11; Shanghai’s SSE Index rose 25.36 points or +0.8% at 3,189.04; Australia’s ASX 200 dropped 1 point or -0.01% at 6,974.90.
