Beware Of Fraudulent SMS Scam Through ‘GOV’ Sender Code; MCMC

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a reminder to the public to be alert and not be fooled if they have received an SMS from a Sender ID ‘GOV’ using the organization name MySejahtera informing users that special financial assistance has been credited to their Touch N Go (TNG) eWallet account.

MCMC found that there was a misuse of the ‘GOV’ sender ID where irresponsible parties had manipulated this sender ID for fraudulent purposes. For information, SMS notification through Sender ID ‘GOV’ is dedicated to making Public Service Orders (PKA) regarding initiatives by the Ministries and Government Agencies involved.

This reminder is issued in line with the denial by MySejahtera regarding fake SMS messages related to providing financial assistance to the public. The PDRM has also urged the public to be wary of fraudulent tactics and modus operandi.

Restrictive action has been taken by MCMC on the access of the fake link.

The public is asked to be vigilant and check any suspected fake SMS content by contacting the organization involved. This is to prevent you from becoming a victim of fraudulent activity. Individuals found to be spreading false information may be subject to legal action under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (AKM) 1998.
