Asian Stocks Closed Mixed Whilst FBM KLCI’s Bulls Charge Ahead

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 16 (Tuesday) – Bursa Malaysia closed bullishly higher today with the barometer index, FBM KLCI rose 14.77 points or +0.98% to 1,518.78. KLCI is expected to swing higher in hopefuls corporate earnings. Meanwhile, the Asian equities market closed mixed with market participants are digesting the positive cue of the performance of Wall Street overnight and softening of the economy in China. Whilst the recent softened data of CPI print had raised hopes the US Fed might slow down the pace of monetary tightening. Fed minutes which would be due on Wednesday, shall give clues about the pace of rate hikes in the future.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,504.09. The index fluctuated between 1,503.86– 1,517.96.

** 469 counters are gainers, 443 counters are unchanged, while 399 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 2,692,678,800 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 2,215,510,344

** The Top 5 Gainers: PETDAG (23.02, +0.76) ; BKAWAN (23.90, +0.42) ; HEIM (25.00, +0.30) ; BJFOOD (4.34, +0.29) ; HAPSENG (7.50, +0.26)

** The Top 5 Losers: HARISON (5.50, -0.18) ; BOXPAK (1.06, -0.16) ; SUNMOW (0.75, -0.13) ; MPI (32.28, -0.12) ; HUMEIND-LA (1.30, -0.12)

** The Top 5 Most Active Stocks: HARTA (1.77, -0.09) ; TOPGLOV (0.835, +0.04) ; MTRONIC (0.05, +0.005); BORNOIL (0.025, UNCHANGED) ; DNEX-CU (0.035, +0.005)

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) down 5.04 points or -0.15% to 3,251.78;  Hong Kong’s HSI shed 210.34 points or -1.05 % at 19,830.52; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index dropped 2.87 points or -0.01% at 28,868.91 : Korea’s KOSPI Index rose 5.58 points or 0.22% at 2,533.52 ; Shanghai’s SSE Index climbed 1.80 points or +0.06% at 3,277.88; Australia’s ASX 200 rose 41.10 points or +0.58% at 7,105.40.
