Asian Equities Treading Water Pending for Major Data

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 19 (Friday) – Bursa Malaysia dipped in red today with the barometer index, FBM KLCI shed 12.18 points or -0.80% to 1,504.44. The index was dragged by profit-taking of heavyweights which was in line with the regional equities market performance. Most Asian stock markets closed almost flattish, or less than +/-0.06% as Fed’s hawkish comments weighed on risk appetite. Also there is a lack of major economic data or events that limits market participants’ decision to move the markets on Friday. Finally, the market participants are also waiting for the central bank of China, PBOC for more stimulus action for the sagging economy. Next week’s Federal Reserve conference at Jackson Hole also keep the market participants toeing the line.
