MCMC Enters Into Cooperation With Several Bodies To Develop National Digital Talent

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on Tuesday signed cooperation documents with several local and global institutions in efforts to develop national digital talent and empower the digital economy through strategic collaboration.

In a statement on Tuesday night, MCMC said the local institutions involved are the Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) and Malaysian Nuclear Agency.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by MCMC chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus.

MCMC said the collaboration with UniKL will be established through a micro-credential development programme that will provide opportunities for adults, especially workers, to add value to their skills in order to remain relevant in their respective careers.

Meanwhile, the collaboration with MBOT and Malaysian Nuclear Agency will focus on developing certification programmes related to technology, especially in telecommunications and broadcasting, cybersecurity, computing and radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (EMF).

In addition, MCMC also signed an agreement with Google to provide scholarships to the less fortunate to undergo courses and obtain Google Career Certificates at Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economy Centres (PEDi).

“With the Google Career Certificates, the group will have opportunities to apply for jobs through Google’s employer consortium,” Bernama quoted MCMC saying.

At the same event, Mohd Ali Hanafiah also announced the awarding of the Digital Society Research Grant (DSRG) to nine recipients for the first cycle of 2022, with all recipients selected from 183 grant applicants who went through a strict selection process.

“The findings from the study conducted by the recipients of the DSRG award can provide valuable input to help MCMC carry out its responsibilities better,” said the statement.

Since 2008, MCMC has awarded research grants involving funds totalling RM3.8 million and so far the initiative has resulted in 56 research projects, while the commission has committed to continue allocating at least RM200,000 per year for research grants.
