MIHAS 2022: MAFI Sees High Potential For Nation’s Agro Food Products To Enter Foreign Markets

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries’ (MAFI) participation in MIHAS 2022 is seen as a golden opportunity to strengthen the export market space for SME entrepreneurs guided by the ministry into foreign markets.

The MIHAS 2022 expo, held over four days at MITEC in Kuala Lumpur, offers various opportunities to explore trade with more than 42 nations.

MAFI Secretary General Dato’ Haslina Abdul Hamid said in respect of MIHAS 2022, MAFI through the agencies under its guidance, namely the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Bio Economy Corporation (BEC), has sent 20 companies along wit three exhibitors from AgroBazaar Online, MARDI and NAFAS.

This engagement aims to encourage Malaysian SME entrepreneurs to venture into business areas of exporting that have a wider market potential, in addition to expressing MAFI’s role in developing the export market space for national agro-food products.

Haslina added MAFI plays a role in providing product marketing opportunities into overseas markets to entrepreneurs through the guidance of agencies under them, in relation to export procedures of agro-food products abroad, selection of potential products to be marketed, in addition to ensuring that the entrepreneur’s products meet the requirements for entry into relevant countries and cooperate with various organisers to arrange business matching sessions between Malaysian entrepreneurs  and importers, supermarkets or related retail outlets.

She said in efforts to explore overseas markets, MAFI also provides advisory on exports and guidance to SME entrepreneurs aside from providing a platform for them to explore opportunities to strengthen and expand market space for the export of agro-food products.

In addition to this, MAFI also provides grants for business expansion, packaging and export logistics to help local agro-food entrepreneurs meet export demand

At MIHAS 2022, Haslina launched of Nuha Foods Pte Ltd, a home grown business  which now operates in the Melaka Halal Hub and has successfully penetrated overseas markets such as Japan, Singapore and some Arab countries such as Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

The event also saw the launch of Agri Dagang Sdn Bhd’s , a company which produces anchovy and chicken stock.

The 2022 edition of MIHAS involves the participation of 549 companies from 42 companies country. A total of 17,000 visitors in the trade and entrepreneurship sector expected to attend this expo, with estimated sales of RM 1.24 billion ringgit.

Among the participating countries are Indonesia, China, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and others.

The product category on display ranges from food technology, e-commerce, food and beverage, cosmetics to personal care products.

Expo Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) is the 18th annual trade and consumer exhibition organized by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is dedicated to promoting Halal Malaysian products to the international market.
