Malaysia’s Population Increased By 0.2% Since 2nd Quarter 2021 – DOSM

The population of Malaysia, which now stands at 32.7 million people, has grown by 0.2% in the second quarter of 2022 (2Q22) compared to the corresponding period last year.

The Demographic Statistics Second Quarter 2022, Malaysia released by The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) today, showed the total population were made up of 30.2 million citizens and 2.4 million non-citizens.

The number of citizens has risen by 0.2 million, while the number of non-citizens has decreased by 0.2 million compared with the Quarter 2, 2021.

Males led females in number across the nation, where there are 17 million males representing no increase from 2Q21, whereas, females numbered 15.7 million, a rise of 0.1 million in 2Q22.

The sex ratio based on the population for 2Q22, stands at 109 males for every 100 females.

The were no apparent changes in the population by age in 2Q22 compared to the same period of 2021, where those above the age 65 stood at 2.3 million (for males and females), similarly, those between the ages of 16 to 64, amounted to 22.6 million and those from the ages of 0 to 14 amounted to 7.6 million.

The birth rate recorded in 2Q22 rose by 0.2% compared with the same period last year standing at 110,858 live births this quarter, while the death rate reduced by 6.9% or 46,772 recorded deaths for the same period this year.
