Free Wi-Fi in Johor Mosques, ‘Surau’ and Religious Schools From Next Year

The Johor government will provide free Wi-fi facilities in mosques and ‘surau’ as well as religious schools in the state in stages starting next year.

State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said for the start, the installation involved 120 mosques and suraus as well as 130 religious schools.

“The installation of Wi-fi facilities also depends on the location because not all mosques and ‘surau’ have broadband coverage,” he said at a press conference after the Management Engagement Session at the Kampung Melayu Majidee Mosque here today.

Meanwhile, he said more than RM3 million of the Johor Heart Patient Fund had been channeled to the Johor State Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) since 2017 until last August, to ease the burden on the people of the state seeking treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

According to him, the treatment costs incurred include surgery, equipment such as pacemakers, follow-up treatment and treatment registration.

“Last year as much as RM429,400 was spent involving 128 patients and this year until August, 93 patients involved RM309,629. Johor people who need treatment can apply through MAINJ or IJN’s Patient Financial Management Division,” he said.

He said the application conditions are open to the people of Johor who are in need such as workers and low-income groups as well as those who are eligible and meet the criteria.

Regarding the Johor Budget 2023, Mohd Fared said the development of education, mosques and ‘surau’ are among the priorities and require more allocation next year.

“This is because this is where our biggest clients are, including religious teachers and the many students of Johor, so we need to celebrate them,” he said, adding that the empowerment of the Mufti Department, the Department of Justice and the Department of Prosecution were also a focus.
