MATRADE Promotes Malaysia’s Capabilities, Strengths In The MRO Industry At MRO Asia Pacific 2022

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the National Aerospace Industry Coordination Office (NAICO), Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), organised the participation of Malaysian maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services players in the Aviation Week MRO Asia Pacific 2022 (MROAP2022), Singapore, held from September 20–23, 2022, at Singapore EXPO Exhibition and Convention Centre.  The participation was MATRADE’s continuous efforts in promoting Malaysia’s capabilities and strengths in the MRO industry. Also, it served as a platform for the MRO companies to expand their brand’s presence and to connect with industry experts and though leadership from all facets of the airplanes lifecycle including MRO, interiors and engine technology including networking opportunities that connect the participants with the full spectrum of the aviation industry globally.

“Participation of Malaysia’s MRO companies to the MROAP2022 aimed to revive Malaysia’s exports of MRO services industry and to further strengthen on market visibility and capabilities of Malaysia’s MRO and its related services in Singapore, the largest aerospace and MRO industry hub in the Region,” said Mr. Amran Yem, Senior Director of Export Promotion and Market Access Division MATRADE.  “Due to international travel bans and border closures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, many aircrafts were grounded, which had negatively impacted worldwide MRO performance. However, the reopening of the border and the rejuvenation of airline operations globally in 2022, have provided Malaysia the chance to promote the MRO sector.

Additionally, data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for July 2022 reveals that demand for MRO services for cargo flights have increased from July 2021 to July 2022, tracking at or near pre-pandemic levels in the worldwide air cargo markets. Therefore, MATRADE’s participation at this event was both highly relevant and timely”, said Amran.

This was also MATRADE’s first time participation in the said event.

The 190 exhibitors from 43 countries and regions that attended the event, represented a wide spectrum of aircraft maintenance, aircraft components, aviation consultancy, and many more, proved that it was certainly a wonderful prospective networking opportunity for Malaysia’s MRO companies. The host nation, Singapore (57 companies), the United States (52 companies), Australia (12 companies), and the United Kingdom (11 companies) all showed significant participation. Other than Malaysia, there were 2 additional country pavilions, namely Singapore and the Queensland Government, Australia.
