Socso Aims For 300,000 Contributors Into SKSPS During Whitening Period

The Social Security Organisation (Socso), will implement a ‘Whitening Period’ lasting a month under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) 2.0 beginning Oct 1 in conjunction with the 51st Socso Day Celebration.

Socso Deputy Chief Executive (Operations) John Riba Marin said the initiative aims to encourage Self Employed People (SEP) to contribute to Socso to obtain social protection under the scheme.

“I call on any SEP who had contributed last year but did not renew the contribution, to do so to ensure the protection can continue,” he said.

John said based on the Self-Employed Social Security Act 2017 (Act 789), the failure of the SEP to register and contribute to SKSPS is an offense and can be jailed for up to two years or fined RM10,000.00 or both, if convicted.

The whitening month that was carried out before, from 1 to 31 May 2022, has increased the awareness of SEP to register under the SKSPS. But there are many who have not yet contributed.

Registration can be made either through the Socso Matrix portal at http://www.matrix.perkeso.gov.my or can the person can go to any of the 54 Socso offices nationwide. “If any SEP still fails to do so, no more exceptions will be considered after this,” he said.

He said as of Sept 27, a total of 559,474 SEP had registered and contributed to SKSPS with 322,371 of them from the government volunteers and passenger transportation sector or gig worker sectors.
