Malaysia’s Low Inflation Rate Driven By Government’s Proactive Measures

The country’s low inflation rate is driven by the government’s initiatives and proactive measures in providing subsidies and ensuring ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ members are not overly burdened by the cost of living.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the inflation rate could have reached up to 10.6 percent if there was no intervention from the government and the effects of implementing subsidies, adding that the strategies under the National Monetary Policy have resulted in the country’s inflation rate remaining at a manageable level.

Airlines agree to increase domestic flight frequencies

Airline companies have agreed to increase domestic flight frequencies from time to time depending on demand as a measure to address the problem of high ticket prices, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Henry Sum Agong said this was following discussions between the Ministry of Transport, Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) and airlines to ensure that the prices of flight tickets offered are competitive.

“The government always encourages airlines to increase flight frequency during festive seasons, especially on high-demand routes such as Kuala Lumpur-Sibu, Penang-Sibu and Johor Bahru-Sibu.

Bigger allocation needed to help Malaysians stranded overseas

A bigger allocation to cover the cost of providing consular assistance to Malaysians abroad is among those requested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the 2023 Budget.

Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said the allocation was specifically to help approximately 2,500 Malaysians who were being detained or stranded overseas.

He said the current allocation was insufficient, especially for the purpose of visiting Malaysians who were being detained at various locations to ensure that they are healthy and safe.
