Budget News Doesn’t Spark Market, Bursa Closes Lower

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 7 – Bursa Malaysia closed broadly lower today. The benchmark index FBM KLCI retreated 14.43 point or -1.02% to 1,406.00. Moved in tandem with the regional peers, the KLCI took a beating at the closing.

Asian bourses followed the negative cue of Wall Street overnight ahead of U.S. jobs data on Friday. Hawkish comments from U.S. Federal Reserve officials have hinted the central bank’s intention to deliver more rate hikes – also douses rally in the bourses.

** The FTSE BM KLCI opened at 1,421.79. The index fluctuated between 1,405.18 – 1,421.90.

** 308 counters are gainers, 382 counters are unchanged, while 485 counters are losers.

** Total volume of 1,909,926,400 shares changed hands; while Turnover of RM 1,433,606,933

* Singapore’s Straits Times Index (STI) down 7.80 points or -0.25% to 3,143.76; Hong Kong’s HSI ceded 272.10 points or -1.51% at 17,740.05; Japan’s Nikkei 225 Index dived 195.19 points or -0.71% at 27,116.11; Shanghai Stock Exchange closed for Golden Week holiday; Korea’s Kospi Index down 5.02 points or -0.22% at 2,232.84; Australia S&P/ASX 200 Index shed 54.70 points or -0.80% at 6,762.80.
