TNB Strengthens Its Integrity Pledge

Tenaga Nasional Berhad signs MOU with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission committing to cooperate in instilling integrity and positive culture among its employees via awareness and training programs.

President and Chief Executive Officer of TNB, Dato’ Indera Ir. Baharin Din and MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki signed a Memorandum of Understanding allowing the two organisations to hold various joint activities for a period of five years. Azam said the MoU further strengthened the existing cooperation between the both and even expanded to include sharing of information and expertise, improving TNB’s systems and procedures, and implementing joint detection operations.

TNB has taken various initiatives to strengthen integrity, including implementing various programs such as workshops and training, improving work and administration systems, enforcement actions, and developing a commendable work culture.

Among them include obtaining ISO 37001 “Anti Bribery Management System” certification from SIRIM QAS International; develop a comprehensive, holistic and systematic Organizational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP); developing the Integrity Health Index (IHI) to objectively measure the level of integrity and train officers at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA), MACA to become certified integrity officers (CeIO). While describing TNB’s initiative to hold its own integrity day as an obligation to improve the integrity and personality of employees, Azam insisted that the signing of the MoU would not happen without the determination of the utility company’s leadership.

“Investing in good governance may be quite expensive, but believe me, the return on this investment is definitely worth it. The efforts of TNB’s top management to improve integrity is a very good investment and should be commended,” he said.

He also promised that MACC is ready to discuss further to carry out various related efforts in helping TNB combat electricity theft activities by bitcoin mining syndicates.

Baharin commented on the cooperation between TNB and MACC when they busted electricity theft activities syndicates and is proud that no TNB citizens were found to have received bribes in MACC’s undercover operation. He added that, as a Government Linked Company and the main organisation in mobilising the nation’s progress, TNB is responsible for building the character of its employees to curb negative cultures such as cases of crime, corruption, and any form of malpractice.
