Hai Yan, the Chinese restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi, celebrates its reopening after two years of closure with an elegant upgrade and an exclusive culinary journey to delight your palates, The Ritz-Carlton style.

Hai Yan, or Treasures of the Sea, is a luxurious take on the traditional Malaysian Chinese fishers’ restaurant, serving modern Chinese cuisines of the sea as its signature offerings.

Perched on stilts above giant rocks that rise from the sea, the Chinese fine-dining restaurant boasts spacious overwater decks that point to the East, South, and West while mounted at different heights above the water surface for a truly distinct ocean experience. The lowest deck, charms with the energy of splashing waves against the rocks while our medial terrace enchants guests with the mesmerizing Langkawi sunset. Refreshed with the addition of alfresco dining against the backdrop of a stunning panoramic view of the Andaman Sea, its upper deck will surely take your breath away.

Stepping stones leading into the dining area provide a unique experience of walking on water. And just when you think the magic is over, you will be greeted with a grandiose chandelier that adorns the hallway ushering guests into a lavish and opulent space in hues of red and green. Take a moment to immerse yourself in the intricacies of the richly decorated interior.

Executive Sous Chef Jay Goh takes you on a sensory journey to explore his culinary philosophy – globally inspired and locally created. A process that begins with premium ingredients sourced either locally or seasonally while still preserving its quality and flavor.

Leading the operations team is Assistant Restaurant Manager, Jerry or JJ as he is fondly referred to, and all the Ladies & Gentlemen geared to welcome back diners to create more Ritz-Carlton memories #RCMemories.

The refreshed menu takes on a twist of modern Chinese cuisine with its all-time favorites beginning with the Beijing Roasted Duck, Wok-fried Black Angus Beef cube, and Golden Vermicelli with Duck Egg yolk. The new creations to savor are the delicious Two-way Main Lobster – Fried Lobster Head, Ginger Scallion, and Pan-fried Lobster Tail with XO Sauce, Braised Homemade Yee Foo Noodles and Hot & Sour Soup, and Lobsters with Fish Maw, to name a few.

A grand addition to the menu at Hai Yan is a creative selection of traditional to modern everyday favorites, Dim Sum. With its newly minted Dim Sum room, Chef Jay and his kitchen brigade are rolling out delicious Prawn Dumplings with Water Chestnut, Scallop Dumplings, and many more, including Pan-fried Mushroom buns, Wok-fried Black Angus Beef with Basil Leaf, and Barbequed Chicken Buns.

For a bespoke dining experience in an intimate space, dine in Hai Yan’s exquisite private dining rooms, complemented with personalized service and decadent menu selections. The Gamat Suite, intimately sits up to 8 guests is inspired by the abundant healing properties and the symbolic meaning behind sea cucumber, this luxurious delicacy is locally known as Gamat (海参) or when pronounced in Cantonese ( 开心Hói Sām), meaning happiness.

The Empurau Suite on the other hand is named after the ‘King of Rivers’, the Empurau fish is known to be sold at an extravagant price and regarded by epicureans to have an evocative taste that is said to be ( 忘不了Wàng bùliǎo) meaning unforgettable. The Empurau Suite sits up to 10 guests.
