LRT Disruption: Compensation In The Form Of Validity Extension Of Travel Passes, Says Wee

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) will compensate light rail transit (LRT) users affected by service disruptions by extending the validity period of passes, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He said the extension of the validity of the pass like My50, which is an unlimited pass for Rapid KL service users, will depend on the management of Prasarana.

“We see it as unfair, if commuters cannot use the LRT for a week but still have to pay. The validity period will be extended, how long, depends on the management.

“I have been assured by Prasarana, that this will be done,” he said in a press conference regarding the issue of LRT service disruption on the Kelana Jaya route on Nov 11, Bernama reported Wee saying.

Prasarana had announced that 16 LRT stations from Kelana Jaya to Ampang Park Station will be suspended for seven days starting November 9 due to system disruption.

KTMB Provides Alternative Options

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has been providing alternative options for public transport users to the city centre, following the LRT disruption since Wednesday (Nov 9).

KTMB, in a statement on Friday, said that commuters can use the KTM Komuter service for the Port Klang route and the Skypark Link service from the Skypark terminal in Subang.

These two services also stop at Rapid KL integration stations, namely Subang Jaya, Abdullah Hukum, KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur, Bank Negara and Putra stations, read the statement.

As a public transport operator, KTMB continues to support and cooperate with Rapid KL in providing efficient rail service connectivity to users.

The public can visit the KTMB website www.ktmb.com.my or through the MyRailtime application for more information on KTM Komuter and Skypark Link service timetables.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is also providing special routes for GoKL free bus services, involving six buses, from Friday (Nov 11), following the disruption of the line.

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said this special route covers Central Market, Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque and KLCC, with a frequency of every 10 minutes during peak hours which are 7am to 9am and 5pm to 8pm.

“The GoKL bus service for the 11 existing routes is running as usual,” he said in a statement.

In addition, DBKL also added two more ‘point duty’ locations, on Jalan Jelatik and Jalan Datuk Keramat, on top of the existing 13 ‘point duty’ locations to aid traffic dispersion.

“We are also increasing the number of traffic wardens in areas with high traffic flow, with a total strength of 45 people,” he said.

DBKL is ready to provide assistance and cooperation to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the Royal Malaysia Police and other related agencies to ensure smooth traffic and provide facilities to affected parties.
